Upper School

Equipping Students for Life Beyond Fletcher (Grades 9-12)

In the Upper School, the focus shifts to preparing students for success beyond Fletcher. Instruction remains highly individualized, supporting each student’s learning profile while also challenging them to think independently and sharpen their critical thinking skills.

Students follow a rotating schedule with extended learning blocks that allow for deeper engagement with multisensory, process-based, and project-based learning, as well as time to explore their individual interests.

They continue to strengthen their executive functioning skills and self-awareness, developing the strategies needed for academic independence and real-world readiness.

Students are encouraged to pursue their passions through a diverse selection of elective courses. They may also take advantage of dual enrollment opportunities at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC)—earning college credit while completing their high school diploma.

College Counseling

Our comprehensive College Counseling Program begins in ninth grade, guiding students and families as they:

  • Explore post-secondary options
  • Identify best-fit colleges or programs
  • Understand accommodations and application processes
  • Prepare for successful transitions after Fletcher

Student Outcomes

  • Data shows that Fletcher graduates outperform all graduates from North Carolina and the United States across each ACT academic area tested, indicating increased readiness for college-level work.
  • The percentage of Fletcher graduates who earn four-year college degrees surpasses the national average for students with learning differences.

Whether students pursue college or other meaningful post-graduate paths, they leave Fletcher with the confidence, tools, and resilience to thrive as learners, leaders, and self-advocates.
